Summary

The Gods died and took their magic with them. Or so she thought.

Crown Princess Viora Vulpra is set to take the throne of the Orphian Empire, but resistance brews in the country of Aquilani, whose queen has been held hostage in all but name for twenty years. This has not stopped her brother, Jasper, from fomenting rebellion and training a group of young rebels in the long-forgotten shapeshifting powers of their goddess. 

Determined to begin her reign with peace, Viora has one mission: Convince the prince to marry her or kill him. But before Viora can reach him, she is captured by his rebel students led by Kyper Grange. Operating outside Jasper’s purview, Kyper wants to use Viora to trade for their captured queen, all while hiding their powers from the princess. But when tragedy strikes and Viora comes to their aid in rescuing a child from imperial captivity, he agrees to show her the true Aquilani, not the one she’s been told lies about all her life. 

As Viora spends more time with Kyper and his friends, she begins to question everything she thought she knew, confronting not only her mutinous feelings, but the true cost of the crown she stands to inherit. When imperial soldiers attack the city and capture Kyper, Viora must choose between her heart and her throne, with the long-buried powers of the Gods waiting in the wings to change everything.
